Well for you who haven't heard I have taken charge of being the new Drum Major for the Frankfort Marching Band and recently I just got interviewed by the paper and had a front page article. So as you can imagine I was nervous about getting interviewed and this was the real deal. I had to set up an appointment with one of the writers and it was about a half an hour long. Before this the longest I had ever gotten interviewed was about 1 min.
So as I'm going throughout the interview I'm trying to be myself but to make sure I don't say anything wrong, but what I kept noticing is that I kept mentioning my grandpa. She would ask something like "Where did you get your first trombone" and I would say "Well my very first one came from my grandpa" Then she would ask something like "Why did you pick band" and I would say "Well many people in my family were in band including my grandpa" By the end of the interview on here note sheet she had a whole list of things about Grandpa, that's crazy! Whats also crazy is when I did a solo for the 8th grade talent show they were making a scrip for the MC's and they would say a fact about every act and they asked me why did i pick the trombone to play. Of course I said the reason was because my Grandpa played it.
IT all leads back to him! One of the questions I've had a hard time answering for the past couple years is "Who has been one of the biggest influences in your life to do band" In other words who was one of my biggest supporters and lead me in this direction and I used to not really have an answer. I mean I have many people who are supporters of me. My mom my past music teachers and various teachers, my whole family, the list goes on and on. and I would always say something like "many people" or "I don't know". Now, though I think I have a more clear picture of who is one of my biggest influences music wise and it would have to be my grandpa.
Like I said, it all leads back to him. and I'm thankful of that.
So anyways keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars!
Drum Major out!
